Cognitive Behaviour therapy can be a powerful, life changing experience for many people. It has been shown through many research studies to be an effective treatment. In general, CBT is a therapy which works in the ‘here and now’ to relieve distress and focus on solutions rather than on problems. It reveals how our emotional life is often driven by somewhat unfair beliefs and thoughts that we hold about ourselves, others and the world. The goal of cognitive behaviour therapy is to increase self-awareness, facilitate better self-understanding and improve self-control by developing more appropriate cognitive and behavioural skills.
